Political unrest has escalated this week, with political demonstrations and protests occurring in New Caledonia and a state of emergency being declared in New Caledonia on Wednesday, 15 May 2024. A curfew is in place for the Noumea metropolitan area between 6PM and 6AM and local authorities have advised to strictly limit movement throughout the day.
The La Tontouta International Airport has closed and flights have been cancelled until at least Friday 17 May 2024.
The Australian Government have now raised their warning level to ‘Exercise a high degree of caution’ in New Caledonia overall due to protests and travel disruptions and ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ in metropolitan Noumea and the RT1 road to La Tontouta Airport due to civil unrest, travel disruptions and limited essential services.

Travel Insurance for adventurous travellers
Adventure travel insurance is designed for thrill-seeking travellers who want to test their limits with extreme sports and activities.
Some travellers dream of a relaxing vacation on a beach under the sun, marvelling at priceless art in museums, or visiting famous landmarks and historic sites. But for the more adventurous travellers, the best holidays are the ones that give you an incredible adrenaline rush!
Do you want to bungee jump, skydive or swing across a canyon? Trek to Everest base camp or hike the Kokoda Trail? Or perhaps explore the road less travelled on the back of a horse or a quad bike?
If that sounds more like you, we’d say you’re planning an adventure holiday!
Being adventurous doesn’t mean forgoing personal safety though, and even the most experienced adventurers can run into trouble overseas. It's important to make sure you purchase an adventure travel insurance policy that will cover all the exciting activities you want to do.
Fast Cover has your back when it comes to adventure travel insurance. You can head off feeling confident that you’re covered if something unexpected does happen.
What is “Adventure Sports” or “Adventure Activities”?
Adventure Sports and Activities are activities and sports that you will need cover for when travelling overseas. Fast Cover has some activities that are covered and some you will need to purchase the Adventure Pack to cover you for those activities and sports. This depends on what you will be participating in when travelling. You can purchase cover for activities like bungee jumping, scuba diving, hiking, trekking and sailing under our policies.
What Adventure Activities are covered?
We can provide cover for the activities listed below - some are automatically covered, while some require you to add on a specific pack or to select the activity when you purchase your policy.
Depending on the activity that you're planning on doing, you may need to add or choose more than one pack and/or activity type for your travel insurance policy.
It's possible that if what you wish to do isn't on the list, or you don't purchase the appropriate pack or policy type, then there's no cover for that activity.
If you're unsure or want to discuss yout options, contact our Customer Service team on 1300 409 322.
